At this time of year, we in the Central Valley generally live under a blanket of fog. The fog makes everything outside a little bit cold and quiet, which gives us all the more reason to hang up some festive lights and put on some music. It may be gray outside, but it's warm and welcoming within. Although our family makes a major effort to use as little electricity as possible, on days like this I find myself keeping the lights on the tree on all day and shutting other appliances and what-not off instead. It just makes the day seem a little bit brighter.
