On a mission

Heading to the local thrift store today to look for a few items. I'd love to find some nice serving silverware -- big serving spoons/forks, salad tongs, etc. because I'm woefully short of them since I always seem to take them to parties and then forget to retrieve them.

I'm also open to finding a couple more serving platters, and whatever else looks good and is inexpensive.

I will admit it: sometimes I just get the shopping bug and want to walk the aisles and browse the shops. So it's nice to be able to head to the thrift store and give things a new home and to never spend more than $20.

PS:  Here's the goods. Two serving forks, two spoons, one small brocade evening bag that I have little use for but absolutely adored on sight and had to bring home. Grand total: $8.00. We're covered in the side-dish Scooping Department (with the men it's more like the Shoveling Department)  on our holiday side dishes now, too. No platters were found today, but there's always next week to look again!

  1. Great finds! I need to do a serving fork/spoon mission too. There are never enough, are there?

    1. Thanks! And you can't tell, but it's just the most amazing feeling fabric. I'm going to try to give it more use than the previous owner did. Good luck on your serving silverware hunt. There's lots out there to be had.

  2. Years ago, a friend turned me onto the joys of mismatched silverplate ... and an obsession was born. At this point, I think I could give everyone at a State dinner their own complete set of utensils. Like you, and Stephen, I don't think I have enough serving ware. Is it because I truly DON'T have enough, or it because I have lost touch with the reality of what 'enough' really means? I think it's the latter.

    1. I think we all have something we just can't stop acquiring. I love plates and have so many that, like you, I could have a state dinner! I also have a weakness for tablecloths and good cloth napkins. Glad I'm not alone in loving all this stuff!
